“Woke up this morning, got yourself a gun”…. If you know your Pop Culture references, you know full well that this is the opening line of the song by Alabama 3 that played during the intro to HBO’s “The Sopranos”. While many fans expected some kind of sequel series or film over the course of the 14 years its been since that ended, we are getting a prequel instead from Warner Brothers Pictures and Chase Films with “The Many Saints Of Newark”. The Official Trailer for the film was recently revealed and is presented below for your attention with some light premise, casting and art. Take a look.
The Premise: A look at the formative years of New Jersey gangster, Tony Soprano. (c/o IMDB)
Alessandro Nivola as Dickie Moltisanti
Leslie Odom Jr.
Jon Bernthal as Giovanni “Johnny Boy” Soprano
Corey Stoll as Junior Soprano
Michael Gandolfini as Tony Soprano
Billy Magnussen as Paulie “Walnuts” Gualtieri
John Magaro as Silvio Dante
Michela De Rossi
Vera Farmiga as Livia Soprano
Piercing Ken Thoughts: So I’ve gotta say that this trailer looks pretty good and while I feel that prequels are better suited for the Marvel Studio and DC superhero stuff or Star Wars franchises, this might work for those who loved the show for many years and spark an interest in the ones who only got into it based on the streaming services. I watched “The Sopranos” rather religiously and while I hated how it ended, I have my own view of the outcome. I won’t type it here in case you are one of the newbies who still plans on binge-watching before this releases October premiere. By then I am sure everyone will be dying to get to the movies if they haven’t braved it yet because of the lingering pandemic. Right now my only film plans are “Black Widow” and “Shang-Chi” and this one I might watch on HBO Max since it streams the same day. What do you readers think about this trailer? Are you down with the program? Chime in below in the comments section and I will see you again soon. Stay safe out there.
