Tribeca Enterprises, in partnership with DoorDash and Rémy Martin, announced the return of the Tribeca Drive-In series, combining the power of the movies with the majesty of the Rose Bowl Stadium. Featuring an exciting slate of new and classic films, the limited-engagement series will provide audiences with an memorable experience that’s sure to captivate audiences of all ages. The Tribeca Drive-In screening events, which will be the only drive-in experience coming to the Los Angeles area, will take place on the weekends between July 28-August 26, 2021 at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, CA.

A signature series for Tribeca, drive-ins have been a part of the festival’s programming since its inception 20 years ago. Tribeca Festival 2021: Day One Recap

The 2021 Tribeca Festival, presented by AT&T, kicked off its 20th anniversary with the world premiere of Warner Bros. Pictures’ highly anticipated musical celebration In the Heights. The film fittingly premiered at the United Palace theater in Washington Heights with scenery from the film serving as the backdrop on the carpet. For the first time ever, the festival’s opening night was screened simultaneously across all five boroughs in multiple open-air venues.

Jon M. Chu directed the screen adaptation of the Tony Award-winning musical, created and produced by New York’s own Lin-Manuel Miranda. The screenplay adapted by Quiara Alegría Hudes, with original songs and lyrics by Miranda, is about a bodega owner Usnavi, played by Anthony Ramos, who hopes, imagines, and sings about a better life. The film also stars Corey Hawkins, Leslie Grace, Melissa Barrera, Olga Merediz, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Gregory Diaz IV, Stephanie Beatriz, Dascha Polanco, and Jimmy Smits. Miranda, Hudes, Scott Sanders, Anthony Bregman, and Mara Jacobs produce.

Tribeca Announces Return To Live Entertainment

Tribeca Film Festival Announces Winners For 2020 Jury Competition & Art Awards

The other day we helped share the news about the Tribeca and YouTube collaboration of the “We Are One: A Global Film Festival” (discussed HERE). Now its time to share the announcement about the winners for the Jury Competition and Art Awards.

The Tribeca Film Festival, presented by AT&T, announced the winners for the 2020 juried competition, awarding top honors from this year’s program. Tribeca has continued its commitment to celebrating storytellers while the 19th edition, previously set to take place April 15-26, 2020 in New York City, is being rescheduled.

The Half of It was honored with The Founders Award for Best U.S. Narrative Feature; The Hater for Best International Narrative Feature; and Socks On Fire for Best Documentary Feature. Shorts awards went to No More Wings for Best Narrative Short; My Father The Mover for Best Documentary Short; Friends for Best Animated Short and Cru-Raw for the Student Visionary Award. The Nora Ephron Award went to director Ruthy Pribar for her feature, Asia. The award was created seven years ago to honor excellence in storytelling by a female writer or director who embodies the spirit and boldness of the late filmmaker. The full list of films and filmmakers honored are highlighted below.

Presenting: The 2019 Gotham Independent Film Awards Winners

Back in October, I shared the nominations for the Gotham Independent Film Awards with the readership and this was the very first time that I was broadcasting this particular awards show to our audience. I mentioned that I don’t really follow much of the independent releases these days and lean more towards Warner Brothers, Universal and Disney for the superhero and monster stuff. With that being said, I am very happy to share the announced winners for the 2019 Gotham Independent Film Awards. For this rundown I’ve even left the nominated so you can see just who beat who.
