This Just In: NY Empire State Tattoo Expo Pushed To October

ny empire state tattoo expo logo

To all our Artists, Vendors & Attendees;

The Hilton is opening July 1st instead of their scheduled date of June 1st. Because of this, they are pushing back all of their shows, including ours.? The new date for the 2021 Empire State Tattoo Expo will be October 1st, 2nd and 3rd. We believe these dates will also benefit the show being able to be open at full capacity.

Thank you for your continued support

*** end of transmission ***

Piercing Ken Thoughts: Listen, the world is still shaking some of the pandemic off its pants and while the vaccinations are increasing by the day the whole general public are not rallying behind it and that is making the organization of larger scaled events problematic. Things are opening but many are delayed and one can only imagine how something like the NYESTE will be coordinated when the time comes this October. I’ve been attending this expo since 2017 and believe it or not I don’t have a single tattoo. I am a fan of the amazing art and the awesome vendors and I gladly support them with “The Chronicles” voice when its possible to do so. There are always cool guests and a fun stage presentation to enjoy along with lots of things you can purchase even if you aren’t getting yourself inked. As I close this news up I wonder what you readers think about the change and wonder also if you were planning on attending or not. Truth be told outside of a quick museum visit back in December I haven’t really been to anything at all. I am debating a visit to the Affordable Art Fair which happens later in the week but that is only because it will be strictly enforced with Covid-19 protocols. That’s all I have on this and I will say goodbye and see you next time. Please stay safe out there.

Flame Con Offers An Update On 2021 Event

The Press Release:
To our queer geek community, 2021 has finally arrived, and with it we begin a new year of planning for this year’s Flame Con! 2020 presented us with several hard decisions and new challenges, especially around how best to keep everyone safe and provide as much of a Flame Con experience as possible. Several decisions were entirely out of our hands. 2021 is presenting us with very similar challenges.

COVID-19 continues to be the primary factor in our ability to hold an in person event safely. We are still in contract with the Sheraton Times Square, but are largely at the mercy of the venue’s priorities, the laws governing the city of New York and, of course, the pace of vaccine distribution across the country. Like many conventions, we currently have two imperfect options to choose from. If we preemptively cancel the event, before state & local authorities have expressly forbidden large gatherings, we forfeit our deposit with the venue. If we wait for authorities to make a decision on events like ours, we likely won’t know if an in-person Flame Con is possible until just before this August. As a non-profit with a modest budget, forfeiting the deposit to the venue would risk our ability to come back for another year. So, unfortunately, we must wait.

ReedPOP Retires BookExpo and The Book Con Publishing Events

reedpop logo

The Press Release:
Today, ReedPop – the world’s leading producer of pop culture events – announced that they will be retiring BookExpo, BookCon, and UnBound, effective immediately.

Earlier this year, ReedPop was forced to make the decision to cancel the in-person BookExpo, BookCon, and UnBound 2020 events, pivoting to BookExpo Online and BookConline bringing the industry together virtually for a global celebration of books. With continued uncertainty surrounding in-person events at this time, the team has concluded that the best way forward is to retire the current iteration of events as they explore new ways to meet the community’s needs through a fusion of in-person and virtual events that will reach larger audiences than they ever could before. The ReedPop team is actively engaging in conversations with publishers, booksellers, and other partners, and with their feedback and ideas they will together agree how to best rebuild the events in the future.
