As previously documented here on the website, I was attending the annual Toy Fair as a member of the Pop Culture media and while most of my findings will be posted over on the PiercingMetal.com website on THIS LINK – There are times when the narrative belongs here. Such is the case with Mattel’s signage about the 60th Anniversary of the world’s most famous fashion doll – Barbie. The doll was celebrating launch which took place at a Toy Fair just like this one.
Most of the signs were visible from everywhere but these next couple of shots I snagged while looking around the waiting area where all the Mattel reps were showcasing the upcoming years products. PiercingMetal didn’t manage to get an invite to the Blogger Breakfast they hold for press so I decided to go up and talk about what was coming and if I could see things outside of that blogger preview. While I waited, I saw the classic doll in the display case and said “this is a post”.
Here’s the history behind “Barbie” and her creator Ruth Handler. I did expect more visuals to be around the convention but in all honesty I had limited time to look with all the appointments I had made for this years show.
Piercing Ken Thoughts: So allow me to add a wish of “Happy Birthday” to Barbie on behalf of the Ken’s out there. Sometimes I tease people and say my mother named me after the doll or that the doll was named after me. Each absurdity couldn’t be further from the truth. Now as far as seeing what would be coming down the pike, I didn’t manage to secure a proper exploration session but one of the staff at reception gave me a five minute brief at the DC Superheroes stuff which will be posted over on PiercingMetal. It was better than nothing and we usually see a lot of Mattel product at events held by our friends at The Toy Insider and TTPM. Stay tuned to this site for other age appropriate Toy Fair 2019 content.
