Since it’s once again time for the “wearin’ o’ the green” I wanted to wish all of our readers a very Happy St. Patrick’s Day and share a couple of images with them as well. All of the stuff you see was captured on wanderings around our fair metropolis shortly before the actual St. Pat’s Day.
The image above actually amused me greatly since it was observed on a local neighborhood Chinese restaurant. Perhaps I should be a little offended having some Irish blood in me, but I really don’t get that PC and really got a kick out of it and could not resist capturing it for the Chronicles. I’m actually in agreement with this happy little Leprechaun and think we should all join in on the fun. However these next things are not good for anyone. Green wigs and hats and a shamrock laden “Cat In The Hat” top hat…..yeah. I doubt anyone wearing one of these is even remotely Irish.
Spotted a few shamrocks over the bar at Smith’s (which is an Irish bar of course) and had to give them a little love in my post this season. I’m sure some readers of my posts know that I frequent this place before the shows happening in Times Square and if you don’t, well, you just learned something.
Had to visit a friend who was ill, and this was in the lobby of the place he was recuperating in.
Bad light, slightly off kilter angle and a few beers already got me this shot in this fashion, but I snagged it in the Bull McCabe’s Tavern down on St. Mark’s Place.
This would not be a post about some St. Patrick’s Day visuals without an Irish flag.
Okay, so this shot actually comes from last year and was snagged late in the evening. Since this posting is going live bright and early in the AM, I was not going to be able to get one from later this evening. Here you go and it’s the Empire State Building for those who are scratching their chins wondering.
Last year I made note of the new version of the McDonald’s “Shamrock Shake” and I had not tried it since I thought they made it a coffee. That was incorrect and I was glad since I could not stand by drinking a green coffee. The shake below was sampled a week ago and it strikes me as the same as I remembered. I’ve not had one in years but do give the new version a thumbs up. Yes I Foodspotted it. How could I not.
Oh yes and before I go. Please don’t do this……it’s a green beer. It came out of the tap the normal way but then someone in the bar dropped green food dye into it. This was the guy next to me at the bar last year and I had no interest in that. Call me crazy but I like my beer the way it is supposed to be. Not green. This was at Duke’s which is another one of my regular watering holes when I am out and about.
After its all been said and done, you can surely reward yourself with a green cookie. These are acceptable for sure. I spotted them at the Bridgeview Diner and while its the same food coloring as in the aforementioned beer, this is a preferred item to use such a thing on.
I could also not forget my local supermarkets fine display of some truly tasty looking cupcakes all decked out to the wearers of the green…..
Even though I am sure that most of the people I know celebrated all day yesterday (if Facebook posts are to be trusted) I do hope whoever is going out today watches out. Please do have fun, but when the silly hats and the green beer starts a flowing, its probably time to go home.
Slainte.
