The Press Release:
NY NOW®, the modern wholesale market for retailers and specialty buyers seeking diversity and discovery, has decided, in light of the ongoing COVID-19 crisis and after careful consideration, to postpone the 2020 Summer Market which had been scheduled for August 8-12, 2020, at the Jacob Javits Center. With the interest of the retail community in mind, and to provide buyers a strong, convenient, and varied Market Week—NY NOW and Shoppe Object are working together to reschedule the New York Market Week to October 2020. The NY NOW Fall Edition will showcase at the Javits Center on October 18 – 20, 2020 and Shoppe Object will stage at Pier 36 October 20 – 22.

“NY NOW’s role is to bring buyers and brands together safely in a spirit of discovery and unity. With that in mind, we are rescheduling our August event and will instead run a NY NOW Fall Edition in October,” said Tim Hart, SVP Retail, NY NOW. “We are pleased to coordinate our change of dates with the organizers of Shoppe Object so that buyers experience a robust and convenient Market Week in October. We will continue to monitor the progress of the COVID-19 pandemic and review our plans as required. It’s, of course, disappointing that our community will not be able to gather in August, but we look forward to coming together in October,” continued Hart.

Presenting The 65th Annual Drama Desk Awards Nominees

If there is one thing that I’ve really enjoyed sharing with the readers of “The Chronicles”, it’s the assorted awards show nominations and winners circle rundowns. I was hoping to have the rundown for The TONY Awards but that event was postponed due to the pandemic back in March (discussed HERE if you missed it) and I don’t think that the nominees were ever announced in April as we were originally reading but I digress. Though the practice of my revealing this information from assorted sources and the official press channels is nothing new anymore, this particular one is brand-new to our list of broadcasts. Ladies and gentlemen get ready for the full nominees for the 65th Annual Drama Desk Awards. I’ll return at the close with some final editorial.

YouTube Celebrates 15th Anniversary of First Uploaded Video

social media logos, youtube, youtube logo

And now its time to celebrate something that isn’t of our own design at all. So historically speaking, today is the 15th Anniversary of the very first YouTube video being published. According to research they first branded this whole thing back in February of 2005 and I guess didn’t rush to get any kind of video up until April. Their launch of brand was actually only a few months before the launch of my own PiercingMetal website for those who might be curious. I dug around and learned that the very first clip was called “Me At The Zoo” and I’ve embedded it for you down below.

We’ve just received some sad news from the media handlers of the popular BookExpo, The Book Con and Unbound event that was to be held in July after being rescheduled from late May due to the Coronavirus Pandemic (we first discussed that HERE). With the city still dealing with this crisis, this event will cancel its plans for the year and return next Spring. Check it out down below.

The Press Release:
To our BookExpo, UnBound & BookCon community,

Due to the escalation of COVID-19 globally, Reed Exhibitions has today announced that the next edition of BookExpo, UnBound and BookCon will now take place in the spring of 2021.

Initially, we were optimistic that our events could run in late July. However, as the pandemic has continued to escalate in the United States and we see the challenges it has brought for the book industry, it is clear that 2020 is no longer a viable option for this community.
