Visiting The New Windsor Cantonment (7/21/2012) – Part 2

Hello again and welcome back to the historical side of this here blog. A few days ago I shared part one of the time that I was spending on the New Windsor Cantonment not too many days ago and since I was taking so many photos had decided to portion them out into two distinct but related chapters. terms of the photos that I was getting in the trusty Panasonic Lumix so I decided to portion them out into two chapters. I’ll finish up with the artillery room and then head outside for some other interesting stuff. Here we go.

Visiting The New Windsor Cantonment (7/21/2012) – Part 1

My next stop on my little exploration of some of the historical places while visiting my upstate friends would be the New Windsor Cantonment. It would be easy to explore this place as it was right next to where I just was for the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor which was discussed on THIS POST. Now it was the Cantonment’s turn and I was glad that I waited to do this one second since it was a lot more involved in terms of things to see. Once again this is mostly a visual presentation because I want you to reflect and feel as though you are also walking the museum. Personally speaking I hate when people are chattering all around me instead of whispering in such a place. Here we go.

Visiting The National Purple Heart Hall Of Honor (7/21/2012)

I recently went upstate for a few days and the goal was to enjoy some fun dining and drinks with my friends and then head out for some regional exploring of the historical sites that the area possesses. They live in Newburgh, NY which is very close to New Windsor and that made the first stop we would make on Saturday the New Windsor Cantonment. This historic site is also the home of the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor so the plan was to explore both. Since we parked the car closer to the Purple Heart museum, we made that part of the area the first to visit. This will be a mostly photographic narrative but I will chime in as needed. If needed. Here we go.

The plaque outside the Hall lines out its premise and purpose.

The Sad Saga Of The Beach Cat

I’m continuing along in my usage of some long unused photos that I snared while being in Atlantic City, NJ. These particular ones were shot in November of 2010 and it was a rather gloomy, doomish kind of afternoon but still I decided to wander on the Boardwalk a little bit. After a few minutes of walking I glanced down to the sand and noticed a stray cat sitting there pondering like he ran the place. Here are my visuals of The Beach Cat.

I realize that I might be misleading with my title of course, but as a cat lover, I felt that perhaps he was just a little bit sad if nothing else. He was observing the goings on and the passer by on the Boardwalk and I kept some distance since I didn’t want to spook him in the event he was hunting for a mouse or something.

I liked the perspective that I got from this next one. He was far enough away from the water to not get wet, but the air was very damp today and a storm was heading in our direction.

This is pretty much the same shot as a couple above, but with a slightly different perspective so I could get more of the tide as it rolled closer and closer up toward the shore. Our new friend would scurry away after a few minutes. As a cat owner I hoped that he was heading for some food and some kind of shelter.

About a month after I took the photos above I saw this sign which made me feel a little more comfortable about the stray cat that I saw. Apparently their is a program in place to take care of the various cats that wander on and around the Boardwalk.

Remember if you ever think about getting a cat for your home that you should try and have it be a rescue. There are so many of them out there and they all need good places to live out their lives. That’s all I have for now. See you again soon.

Concrete Rocking \m/

Sometimes the visuals you see while wandering around make complete and simple sense. I caught this while wandering down in Red Hook and thanks to my buddy The Beehivehairdresser didn’t miss it by accident.

I’ve not much else to say outside this Rock and Roll wisdom except that it would be paramount to listen to some classic Rock and Roll greats once I got home.
