Hey there readers and welcome back to the program once again. In case you are wondering what I am talking about with this one let me explain. You might remember my mentioning how my family retired a couple of years ago and when they did this they also packed up from their beloved Brooklyn and headed to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
The best option for my trip was going to be using Spirit Airlines for the flight as they go directly to Myrtle Beach and require no side stops to switch planes. With the distance being an under two hour flight it makes the most sense to just go straight there. Spirit Airlines is a low cost economy airline and essentially if you want something it comes with a dollar figure. An extra bag = $, a window seat = $ and a bag of potato chips or soda = $. You get my point.
A few weeks ago I was visiting friends upstate and one of the things my buddy likes to do when I am there is keep my time occupied with the coolness of the area. He knows that I love blogging up the sights that I see and felt that a quick visit to the Orange County Choppers complex in Newburgh would be time well spent. He was right. So out came the little point and shoot and I snapped with fervor as I walked around the showroom.
I was heading out to Long Island City to see the art presentation of a friend and to get there I had to take the #7 train which I caught out of Grand Central Station. To the best of my knowledge I had not been on this particular line in a number of years and since I knew that it went outside after a few stops underground I decided to try my hand at some videography.
For the experiment I used my little Sony Cybershot camera and did this from the front car (obviously) and got what I could. The window was dirty and the tunnel dark and tricky to get a clear handle on but for what this was supposed to be it worked out just fine. Now any of you readers from far away places know one of the other things to do when you visit.
For the past few days I have been sharing my photographs from a recent visit to some friends who live up in Newburgh, NY. Before I caught my train my buddy suggested that we do a quick visit to Cronomer Hill Park which was on the way to the station. In this park is an elevated tower that lets you see across the Hudson Valley quite clearly. Depending on the weather you have with you this can be a wonderful visual. Fortunately for us, this was a very nice day so in we went.
Not far from the Cantonment which was presented in a couple of previous posts lies the location of Washington’s Last Encampment. The buildings have been skillfully reconstructed and if you are in the area you should add this part to your exploration as well.
There was a slight path to walk down before we reached the grounds where the buildings were standing.
