Heading Off To NY Comic Con 2012 Today!!!

Hold my calls my friends because I am unreachable for the next couple of days and heading over to the NY Comic Con that is being held at the Jacob Javits Center. This will mark my third year attending the event as a member of the accredited press and while I shall be reporting on the proceedings for my PiercingMetal brand, I did want to put a little signpost here for you to examine my adventures as they get posted up on that site. You’ll need to click on the logo below to be brought to those posts and depending on when you do that will show posts as they have been added. If you’ve seen our other adventures at this fun event you know I do multiple posts across the span of days. Stay tuned for the whole batch. I’ve disabled the means to comment on this post since its nothing more than a signpost. You can leave any topical thoughts on any chapter that you are compelled to.

9/11 – Let Us Never Forget…..

and really, how can we ever forget a tragic attack like 9-11-2001 in the city of New York, or even the world. It’s kind of hard to fathom that we are now at the eleventh year after this happened but we are and while we shall never forget, I think its very important for us to all try to heal all the more strongly. Of course its easier to say this than to do it but it is important to live on and keep the memory of those we lost in our hearts and not let grief or fear cripple us. This is the day that everyone remembers where they were when it happened if they are of a certain age. My own recollection was having just gotten off the train and noticing everyone looking downtown from 23rd Street. I felt it was like watching a scene from a giant monster movie based on the smoke and the look of awe and shock on everyone. At the office the news reported a plane off course but it was soon apparent that there was more to this. We were told to leave the city but when I made it back to Brooklyn via the Manhattan Bridge all one could see in that direction were billows of smoke. It seemed odd. The MTA dropped us at Atlantic Avenue/Pacific Street and it was above ground we all went. I somehow reached my Mother with my cell phone and asked what the latest news was. “They’re gone” she replied, “The World Trade Center buildings had collapsed”. Words that I never even imagined possible and yet this was indeed the reality.

Thank You Commander Neil Armstrong (1930-2012); Fly Safely Home

Just the other day the United States of America, and more truthfully stated the entire world, lost a legendary hero as Commander Neil Armstrong passed away at age 82. Armstrong is most famous for being the first man on the Moon and giving us quotes that resonated through history like “The Eagle Has Landed”, and “That’s One Small Step For Man, One Giant Leap For Mankind”. On July 20, 1969 thanks to the abilities of the Apollo 11 spacecraft, Neil took us where no man had gone before. It was amazing and I remember watching this as a small child on the small black and white television that my babysitter had in her kitchen. I can only imagine how this made the folks who were older than me feel. Truly unforgettable actions and stuff that I am glad had been recorded for generations to appreciate and find inspiration in for the years going forward.

I snapped this show of the visible moon during the daylight as the sun was beginning to go down. I’ve yet to figure out how to get a nice photograph of an actual full moon in the night but this will serve my purpose for this memorial reflection. We all owe thanks to a man whose bravery and service to his country found him performing feats that were not unlike something out of the science fiction novels. Commander Armstrong would die from complications resultant of a cardiovascular procedure and according to notes on his Wikipedia entry his family has stated that if we see the moon smiling down on us on a clear night to give it a wink in Neil’s honor. I think we can all do that now can’t we. Rest in Peace Mr. Armstrong. may your journey home be without incident. Thank you for leaving us with memories of your missions and showing us what possibilities lie ahead for those brave enough to take them.

PiercingKen Is Yelping In The Crowd!!!

Since I have been having a lot of discussions about my enjoyment of food in Foodspotting.com lately and lining out how I felt that it helps a larger demographic find meals that they are looking around for, I decided to share with my readers the knowledge that I am also one of those “Yelpers” that you hear about every now and again. There is a chance that you already knew this from reading my series of Social Networking narratives that I keep over on PiercingMetal Musings, but if you don’t I promise not to hold it against you. One of these topics was about Yelp!

To recap what Yelp! is all about, its a website and a kind of Social Networking area that lets you as a consumer line out the benefits or detriments about a restaurant, bar, or shop. Yes thanks to Yelp! you as the common man or woman have the larger voice and can share it with the world. Be aware that there are a ton of people listening but this does come with some rules. For instance, just being able to do this does not mean you should be super critical about every little detail. I recommend that the new user to Yelp! focus on the winning points of establishments that they like to help send their friends and fans of that kind of spot to it. Bring the positives out and reward the great places. If they rule, then shout it out on the rooftops. I’ve seen people try to destroy places for the slightest infraction and that is just stupid. If a clerk made you wait for five minutes don’t crap on a place. If you were sitting at a bar for thirty minutes without receiving a drink inquiry, then I might say you have a reason to complain. Much like I try to do with my music review reporting, I stress the positive and relate any negativity about something I have with a balanced reason on why this is an issue. You will see that a couple of my Yelp! reviews have updates to them and these were done to raise a brow of concern about something that I no longer felt was right about the experience and that more people needed to know about.

Integrating The PiercingMetal Pregaming Guides Into PiercingKen Blog

AND LO, A NEW HOME FOR THE PIERCINGMETAL PREGAMING GUIDES IS FOUND……

So what am I talking about this time? Well, to bring anyone new up to speed, it was back in the middle of 2010 that I had the idea about discussing the places that my friends and I would all meet up for food and drink before heading into the concerts that we were attending. A beer or three into the night that the idea first dawned on me found me initially wanting to present this to the readers as a lengthy posting that focused on a number of different places all in one easy narrative. After starting it, I realized that this would be something that would need a constant appending and that could prove to be a nightmare. By serializing them into unique posts, each existing place would remain special and each new one could get its own attention and comments. It made more sense at the end of the day and honestly speaking, this serialization premise was working very well for my Social Net Scoop narratives already so why not follow suit with this idea.

Looking back on them, I think that I did about a half dozen of them before I slowly found my time being consumed by the growing amount of concerts that I was attending and trying to keep up with for your Metal attention and with that being the case the topic kind of ended. Now as a very social person, and I don’t just mean in the online world, I really enjoyed bringing the readers of my sites blog these pregaming guides and decided that with the PiercingKen.com blog in full gear and discussing numerous adventures in food that I would move the topic here and start up once more. I feel that doing this lets me just share a decent place with you all whether I be hitting a show or not. Of course, I will be filing these under my Dining Adventures category as opposed to referring to them as pregaming adventures but I don’t think that will matter once the ball gets rolling.

I realize that some of you might be saying that I would be easily served by continuing to use my Yelp! account to line out the finer points of the places I go but I think it will be more fun to share my photos and ideas here as well for good measure. I’m easily found on Yelp! for those who wish to see some of the reviews I had posted and of course I am using Foursquare and Foodspotting now as well to tie all this kind of stuff together. Come find me on any of those if you like, the more the merrier I always say.

Check out my past narratives on this subject by clicking HERE. It will find the stuff that applies from our “Dining Adventures” category.

Thanks for listening to this little PiercingKen PSA 🙂
