Exploring “Canstruction” 2016 @ Brookfield Place

It was that time of year again here in NYC as the “Canstruction” project had assembled the wonderful works of art and displayed them around the lobbies of Brookfield Place down in Battery Park City. I was happy to return to focus some time on this presentation because its for a great cause and I have a lot of photos to show you from it. Before we begin let’s take a look at the premise of the charity itself.

“Canstruction® is a unique, trademarked charity which hosts competitions, exhibitions and events showcasing colossal structures made out of full cans of food. After the structures are built, the cansculptures® go on display to the public as a giant art exhibition. At the end of the event, all food is donated to local hunger relief organizations. Recognized for our commitment to innovation, hunger relief and collaboration, our work has helped raise nearly 40 million pounds of food since 1992. Canstruction® events are hosted in over 150 cities around the world including North America, Australia, South America, Europe and Asia.”

As you can see by the signage above, the display of these “Canstructions” will be here until 11/16 and that is why I rushed to post this. I want all of my readers in the vicinity to see this cool idea – especially since its for a good cause. There was a map of the locations of the constructs and I felt that the best place to start was at the beginning. Sometimes I will have a few photos of a particular sculpt since there was more to look at or it needed a little more of a distance glance. Here we go.

Happy 130th Birthday To Lady Liberty

Today is the 130th Birthday of a very special resident of New York City. Yes my friends, it is the 130th for the amazing Statue Of Liberty who has welcomed millions of visitors to our metropolis and the surrounding regions.

statue of liberty, liberty island,
Happy Birthday Miss 🙂

The statue was a gift from France way back when and you can learn all of the finer details on the official Wikipedia entry that I have pasted at the close of the birthday wish. The photo that you see above was taken by me with the Samsung point and shoot while attending an event called Blogger Bash. The event came with a short harbor cruise and we passed by the statue so everyone was snapping away. I’ve not been to the actual Liberty Island in many years so thinking that I need to do that sort of excursion once more. Who’s up for some tourism? I love exploring my city and sharing the fun right here on the Chronicles so let’s get some plans in gear. See you next time.

Awesome News! Clutter And Leftfield Announce The Five Points Festival

So I hope that you managed to get over to PiercingMetal and see all of the NY Comic Con posts that were going live as there were a ton of photos to enjoy. It’s one of my favorite conventions to attend despite the crushing humanity and now it looks like the game is going to be offering up a brand new experience for fans of the medium and that of designer toys with the recently announced “Five Points Festival”. I don’t usually use “The Chronicles” for announcements such as this but I think its going to be a good idea to help raise awareness as the aim to reach more and more people with this Lifestyle Blog becomes a plan. With that said, let’s take a glance at the full press release that I received.

The Press Release:
Clutter Magazine and LeftField Media today announced the debut of the Five Points Festival, a new convention focused on designer toys and comic art launching next year in New York City’s Lower East Side. The first Five Points Festival will take place May 20-21, 2017 inside Pier 36’s Basketball City, and the event presents itself as the antidote to the average con – a showcase for artists, creators, independent brands, and the counterculture they make.

Five Points will bring together influential names across the designer toy and comic worlds, with a roster already pledging their support. Clutter Magazine, a leading voice in the designer toy world, will curate the Five Points Festival’s toy guests and exhibits, with brands Kidrobot, Super7, Popaganda, Cotton Candy Machine, and Toy Tokyo taking part, and Ron English and Tara McPherson leading the art toy luminaries who’ll appear as guests. On the comic side, Five Points will be presented overall by Midtown Comics, the largest comic retailer in America, and confirmed comic artists and writers in attendance – known for their independent, avant garde, and creator-owned work – will include Bryan Lee O’Malley, Amy Reeder, Brandon Montclare, Kate Leth, Cliff Chiang, Ivan Brandon, Christopher Hastings, and James Tynion IV.

PiercingMetal Goes To NY Comic Con 2016

Hey there readers of the Chronicles Of PiercingKen, I’m here today to tell you that I am once again exploring the massive event known as NY Comic Con as a member of the Press. The convention actually started yesterday but my first post went up on the PiercingMetal.com site a few short hours ago. I’ll be stockpiling my visual finds on that website until I run out of things to post. To see all of the adventurous fun all you need do is click the logo below as that will transport you over to the music and pop culture site. The tag will present all of the posted narratives from the convention and since this runs for a few days and we have numerous posts to share, you might want to check now and then return in a couple of days to see more until I am finished. Based on the photos that I took during the first day, I anticipate no less than “10” narratives on PiercingMetal. I’ll be back with more conventional PiercingKen.com stuff as soon as possible.

Please Note: Since this is a signpost to another resource, the means to comment here have been disabled. You can leave topical thoughts on any of the posts that suit your fancy on the PiercingMetal.com website. Also, if you are a fan of Instagram, you can check out the Official account by clicking HERE. A ton of additional images from the convention have been uploaded there for your enjoyment.

Check Out The “Story Of My Life” Mural By Hicks On Houston St. & Bowery

It seems as though I haven’t been down in this immediate area for a few months because the latest mural is not only awesome but has been in place since the end of August. It’s called “Story Of My Life” and is the work of Logan Hicks. I loved it and snagged a couple of photos as I headed down to the Berlin NY club for a media event. For me this mural speaks to the vibrancy and essence of the city and according to what my research has found me is based on a photograph that Hicks took of a crowd of people on the corner of Spring and Greene Street.

Here is another visual of this with less “real” people in front of it. I couldn’t do any additional shots as I was running late to my event and I still had several blocks to walk to get there. I also used my mobile for this one exclusively as opposed to pulled the DSLR or point and shoot out of my bag. That was a different process for me since I usually do something with each device.

This sort of thing is another reason that I love NYC. There is something at every corner of your eye to see and talk about and share with friends. Keep that creative process going my friends. Especially if you are visiting the greatest city in the world. We don’t mind at all if you snap photos of the stuff around you. Remember we are all pretty much carrying super resolution devices thanks to the mobile quality and it seems as though everyone is using Instagram or Snapchat nowadays. Work it.
