Every once in awhile I like to showcase some visuals that I have captured in my travels that relate to the subway system or that which is in close proximity. These couple of shots were taken way back in early 2010 while on an adventure with my buddy the Beehivehairdresser. I just liked the way they looked to me and decided to finally post them. Enjoy.
By the way, this is the “D” train line elevated rails. I was on or around 18th Avenue and I think the cross with New Utrecht. It’s the same shot but with a slightly different perspective.
I’ve more in some of my photo folders and as I dig them out of my own personal archive I will try to keep presenting this kind of stuff to you on the blog. As I have often said, I prefer posting things here as opposed to Facebook.
As you know there is always construction going on in New York City and while the majority of it is pretty much the same old same old for someone who is a lifelong resident like me, there is the occasional time where the visual (or proposed visual) catches my attention and eye. Such was the case when I exited the “D” train the other night on the way to a show at the Best Buy Theater……Just across from me was a giant sign that proclaimed in as loud a voice as a sign can possibly have that “The Cubes Are Coming!” Check it out below.
I’ve showcased a couple of posts to you readers recently about the massive sink hole that found a few streets right in the vicinity of the PiercingMetal Command HQ being ripped up for necessary maintenance. I guess its the fact that I am male that all of the images of giant digging machines and cranes and weird looking pipes interest and intrigue me and that is why when I see something that catches my eye I snap it up and share it with you here. Such is the case with these two massive sections of a very large pipe that I saw on the corner of 92nd Street and Ridge Boulevard in Bay Ridge. Look at these things.
I could not even fathom how they were to be placed under ground but I guess that was a function of those big machines to worry about. They appeared to be at least twelve or so feet in diameter. Just compare them to the orange street blockers if you need to gauge the image. I could not stand next to it and shoot the shot since no one was around me when I saw them.
This construction is going to continue for awhile and I am sure that I will see some other stuff that merits sharing in no time. Now its back to the regular writing at hand and by the way, I hope I didn’t seem sexist by stating I “think I like this stuff because I am a guy” as I know some women who appreciate these things as well. The construction stuff just reminds me of far away days and Tonka trucks and digging in the dirt with it all. Ciao for now.
So here it is. The brand new parking lot outside of the Foodtown Supermarket. Were you expecting something else? Actually this is a pretty big deal because the space used to be the home of one of my very favorite restaurants ever called “Short Ribs”. They closed awhile ago and the place was plagued with failed business after failed business no matter how hard they tried. Then someone got murdered in the bathroom and no charges were filed since no guilty party was ever found. Still I hated to see the place torn down.
The new lot will give the store what appears to be five or six spaces at best. The original restaurant had parking which I guess it had shared with the supermarket at the time. So congrats to those who needed more parking more than another quality business. Let’s hope that the lines move faster in the store now that there will be more customers in there at all times.
In hindsight I probably should have posted these photos when I first took them, but I didn’t because at first I was not too sure what had happened and then when I realized what it was, I simply didn’t want cause alarm among the general populace of my region. Still there is no time like the present and its very clear that had a semi-close encounter with the Incredible Hulk right up the street from our PiercingMetal HQ. Talk about a close call.
Clearly something pissed off the emerald giant, and it was very likely something that we shall learn more about in this weeks upcoming “Avengers” film. As you can see this alarm box was made very short work of but I expected this result in this kind of encounter. Its almost like a metal pretzel.
That being said, its all I have for you today. Be careful out there my friends.
