Citigroup Center’s Holiday Trains Display (12/2008)

These photos are a couple of years old as you can see by the date in the title that I gave to the posting, but they have never been presented to the readers of the PiercingKen blog since it did not yet exist. Since its overall goal is to share some of the adventures in life and photography that I have taken I wanted to post these for all of you to enjoy.

One of the coolest things that a corporate entity can do is deliver something that makes people smile and engages the spirit of the holidays for free. Such was the case found with the annual model train display that was set up in the lower level of the Citigroup Center for many years. Taking a couple of sentences from its description the massive display is said to feature thirty-one trains circle through the display, which portrays a journey from Weehawken, New Jersey, just outside New York City, to a fictional town in the Hudson River valley, then up to the Catskills and the Adirondacks.” Let’s begin our walking tour of this massive train setup.

My timing of the visit was not the smartest one as it was only a day after the Christmas holiday and that pretty much meant that EVERY tourist in the city was interested in seeing these same trains in all their glory.

Summer In Brooklyn = Nathan’s Famous Original

And now a word from our sponsor’s. OK, so that’s not entirely true but this past weekend I had adventured up to Coney Island, Brooklyn to see some friends doing a Metal “Fest” at the now only Peggy O’Neill’s space. If you’ve gone to see The Brooklyn Cyclones at Keyspan Park, oops I mean MCU Park then you have very likely walked right passed the place or even stopped in for a beer or three. Of course, this narrative is NOT about the bar or even the Metal gig. It’s more about the side trip I made while up there.

NATHAN’S!!!!!

PiercingMetal HQ to remain in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn

While not entirely related to my PiercingMetal role as much as the mechanics of operation of the thing, I thought you might find these recent events of interest in some fashion. Since the website launch back in early 2005, the fortified walls of PiercingMetal Headquarters have stood in beautiful Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.  We’ve found it to be a great place to get the business of Metal accomplished but that doesn’t mean we don’t wonder every once in awhile what a different locale would be like for our work.

A Visit To Rockefeller Park, NYC

Just recently I was headed over to one of the free “River To River” music festival shows because it featured Progressive Rock luminaries Renaissance and Steve Hackett (who played with a little band they call Genesis).  These outdoor shows can be good or bad depending on the weather for the day, and the case of this performance while a little bit on the hot side was a day that could be easily dealt with.

Lo! The Bridge To Our Destination Lies Ahead!
