Canstruction NY 2019 Begins Today @ Brookfield Place

The 27th Annual Canstruction New York is now open! Please visit the 2019 exhibit at Brookfield Place, 230 Vesey Street in lower Manhattan between November 7th and 22nd 2018, daily (including weekends), 10 a.m. – 8 p.m, except November 22nd when the exhibit closes at 6 p.m. for the dismantling of the structures. The exhibit is free to the public; however, we ask all visitors to bring a can of high-quality food to donate to City Harvest. A donation bin is available on the second level (Lobby Level on elevators). Download a map of the 2019 Canstruction New York structure locations to be sure to see all 31 structures (via THIS LINK). Piercing Ken Thoughts: I love this exhibit and have been going for the last few years now. There is so much creativity and talent displayed that its a photographers dream come true. Though I will not get there for a few days based on a vibrant schedule on “The Chronicles” and PiercingMetal.com, I will be going and as I’ve cited in the past….be sure to have a fully charged mobile device or camera or both and one of those external batteries for good measure. I always tend to do regular pics with a camera and stuff for the social networks with the mobile device. Feel free to copy this practice if you also have a website to play with on top of a number of social networks. Oh and last but not least, its really important to bring a can or food along or even some more if you are feeling thankful and fortunate in these times. I tend to bring my own supermarkets brand with me since they are slightly cheaper than a name brand and this lets me bring a few cans as opposed to one or two. I don’t consider this being cheap since I use the store brand myself and like it quite a bit. Some recommendations on what to bring are corn, peas, beans, spinach and maybe even some gravy. As they have noted above, ALL of the donated items AND the products that make up the sculptures go off to City Harvest when the exhibit is dismantled. This will help soup kitchens all around the city feed the hungry and make a lot of people happy if even for a brief time period. The holiday season is upon us so let’s get that spirit in play shall we. Closing up I will suggest that you start to follow “The Chronicles” on our social networks of Facebook and Instagram since I will be posting some stuff over there when I pay my visit in the coming days. Piercing Ken Thoughts: I’ve been going to this display for the past couple of years and I greatly enjoy it based on all the creativity that is showcased by the talented sculptors. You’re going to want to make sure that your mobile device is at maximum charge or your camera is. I tend to bring both of them with me for good measure and to have better offerings for the readers of the website when they see my post about it. I also cannot stress enough on how important it is to bring a few canned goods with you. Why settle for only one can when you are able to enjoy some thirty pieces of art for free. Go to your local market and grab a handful of their branded corn, peas, beans, spinach and maybe even some gravy. Remember that all of this donated stuff along with the products used in the sculpts will be going off to City Harvest charity and immediately be put to use in soup kitchens around this metropolis. That’s all I have to say about the matter so please make it happen and please watch our Facebook and Instagram accounts since I will be posting some stuff over there when I pay my visit in the coming days. Last Rites Tattoo Theatre @ NY Empire State Tattoo Expo 2017

As previously reported, I was wandering the aisles of the NY Empire State Tattoo Expo that was being held at the Hilton hotel. Not only was this event the place to be for all fans of the ink, but it was also for art lovers as Paul Booth brought a whole crop of paintings by artists featured in his “Last Rites” Art Gallery. Sadly I didn’t have a spec sheet so this is just photos for you to see. If you know some of the talent, send me a message on our About Page so I can edit accordingly. Enjoy.

Exploring “Canstruction” 2016 @ Brookfield Place

It was that time of year again here in NYC as the “Canstruction” project had assembled the wonderful works of art and displayed them around the lobbies of Brookfield Place down in Battery Park City. I was happy to return to focus some time on this presentation because its for a great cause and I have a lot of photos to show you from it. Before we begin let’s take a look at the premise of the charity itself.

“Canstruction® is a unique, trademarked charity which hosts competitions, exhibitions and events showcasing colossal structures made out of full cans of food. After the structures are built, the cansculptures® go on display to the public as a giant art exhibition. At the end of the event, all food is donated to local hunger relief organizations. Recognized for our commitment to innovation, hunger relief and collaboration, our work has helped raise nearly 40 million pounds of food since 1992. Canstruction® events are hosted in over 150 cities around the world including North America, Australia, South America, Europe and Asia.”

As you can see by the signage above, the display of these “Canstructions” will be here until 11/16 and that is why I rushed to post this. I want all of my readers in the vicinity to see this cool idea – especially since its for a good cause. There was a map of the locations of the constructs and I felt that the best place to start was at the beginning. Sometimes I will have a few photos of a particular sculpt since there was more to look at or it needed a little more of a distance glance. Here we go.

Check Out The “Story Of My Life” Mural By Hicks On Houston St. & Bowery

It seems as though I haven’t been down in this immediate area for a few months because the latest mural is not only awesome but has been in place since the end of August. It’s called “Story Of My Life” and is the work of Logan Hicks. I loved it and snagged a couple of photos as I headed down to the Berlin NY club for a media event. For me this mural speaks to the vibrancy and essence of the city and according to what my research has found me is based on a photograph that Hicks took of a crowd of people on the corner of Spring and Greene Street.

Here is another visual of this with less “real” people in front of it. I couldn’t do any additional shots as I was running late to my event and I still had several blocks to walk to get there. I also used my mobile for this one exclusively as opposed to pulled the DSLR or point and shoot out of my bag. That was a different process for me since I usually do something with each device.

This sort of thing is another reason that I love NYC. There is something at every corner of your eye to see and talk about and share with friends. Keep that creative process going my friends. Especially if you are visiting the greatest city in the world. We don’t mind at all if you snap photos of the stuff around you. Remember we are all pretty much carrying super resolution devices thanks to the mobile quality and it seems as though everyone is using Instagram or Snapchat nowadays. Work it.
