Representation on the Road
2:30–3:30 PM
The musical ON YOUR FEET! THE STORY OF EMILIO AND GLORIA ESTEFAN was groundbreaking in its own right when it premiered in 2016, then-hailed as an example of bringing more diversity and inclusion to Broadway. Now, on the road in 2023, the second national tour has taken this foundation even further — with cast, crew and musicians representing more than 10 countries including Cuba, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Venezuela, Brazil, Colombia, Chile and beyond. Director, choreographer and producer Luis Salgado will lead a discussion with Claudia Mulet (Associate Director, OYF second national tour), Gaby Albo (principal actor playing Gloria Estefan), and Holly Buczek, CSA. They will share their experiences with ON YOUR FEET! and other productions, and speak more broadly to how these ideas can unfold into future projects that strengthen representation in cast, crew and producers on the road.

Piercing Ken Thoughts: This sounds like a solid bit of convention entertainment for sure. Now I’ve been going to BroadwayCon for a few years now and always manage to have a nice time and meet some super talented and creative people so I’m looking forward to joining in once again. Interested in attending folks who have a passion for theatre can still snag a ticket for one or all three days but don’t dally too long as this will sell out as it usually does. Last year this was held at the Manhattan Center and the nearby New Yorker Hotel but this time around its moved up closer to Broadway and that is fine by me since I didn’t like their using the other location at all. There was too much back and forth and I was exhausted but hey I’m a little older and get aches and pains if I push myself too hard but I digress. Folks who have only now just heard of the BroadwayCon are encouraged to visit the Official YouTube Channel for the website, as I captured the opening fanfare and did about a dozen vendor interviews. See you next time my friends.
