I was heading to a Rock meets Classical show with a valued concert going companion and we decided on on Empanada Mama as our choice of pregaming dining experience. I’d been here a few times over the recent years and find the food to be pretty darned good. The proximity to where we had to go was also in its favor so here are some images and taste discussions from Empanada Mama. The place is located on 9th Ave around 51st Street. I started my night off properly with an amazing frozen Strawberry Margarita.
My companion wasn’t as hungry as I was and has been trying to eat more vegetarian type things so we ordered up a batch of plantains and guacamole.
Here’s a visual of the empanadas that they serve up here. I didn’t cut them open for the visual sense here but one of them had spicy chicken and the other was a beef one. Considering the wide variety that they serve here you could make these a meal of their own but I was a bit hungrier tonight so they were relegated to appetizers instead.
This is called an “arepa” and it reminded me a bit of a grilled cheese.
My dish was the skirt steak with some nice black beans and a great green sauce. There wasn’t a morsel left on the plate but my friend did help me with the black beans since she is a fan and they were too good to not share.
Sorry for so few shots, I just wanted to share this with you all. This was a good time eating but sometimes I find the staff rushes you out to get the next group of people in (its a very small place). That didn’t happen tonight but it has a couple of times and I no like at all. Maybe you’ve also been here and if so please let me know what you thought down in the comments section below. I also think its very important to speak of a good experience on Yelp.com so consider adding your views to that community as well if you’ve got some good insight.
