As noted only a few posts ago, my exploration of the 2016 Toy Fair was done and while a considerable amount of my narratives will be located on PiercingMetal.com there are other items that I found of real interest and fell outside of my usual wheelhouse. As a scribe you also meet some awesome reps from numerous different companies and this post focuses on what was observed at Fat Brain Toys. Take a look.
Skeleton Pete and I had gotten to the point of expanded exploration at this point of the convention and what I mean by that is how we were between the locked in appointments and now was the perfect time to see what else could be discovered. The large bins with this colorful goop type stuff caught my eye and I learned from the Chizcomm PR rep Stephanie that it was known as magic sand. I grew up on Play Doh, Silly Putty and even those grosser things like “Slime” so found the sand to be super interesting.
This stuff was amazing. It really felt like sand and yet there was nothing on your hands when you were done mushing it around between your fingers or molding shapes. Even the famous clays I grew up with didn’t offer that to happen to you.
Then they had this faux snow concoction called “Floof” and that was also rather interesting and felt much different from the Sands Alive stuff. I tell you if they have small containers of these things I want them.
So we had sand and then snow so what is left? Why dirt is left my friends and yes the FBT folks had an item called Play Dirt on display in these little tubs. It was the same color as real dirt but left you with no mess once again. They even had little shovels for you to dig around in it which I thought was awesome. Each of these items had a different texture to them in your hands. No one felt like the other.
Here are the buckets of Floof as they would be found on the shelves.
And “Bugs In A Jar” for the Play Dirt. What good is having dirt to play in if you cannot chance upon a bug or two right?
These “Soothing Sands” items are geared for those older folks like myself who are finding the stress of the workaday world getting to them. I viewed this as one of those sand things we see in some offices with the little rake. To calm you down. Nice idea.
Here are some other “Sands Alive” items that glow in the dark. Always a cool thing if your playthings can glow.
These were really some wonderful items and you can see why I wanted to share them with you all here today. I think I am going to both add a couple of them to the holiday shopping list for friends kids and maybe even ask for one or two for myself. Of course I don’t really want the Soothing Sands and am leaning more towards to the “Play Dirt” and “Floof” stuff. That looks like more fun to me anyway. Back with more Toy Fair 2016 stuff soon so do stay tuned and until we return give a click to their website and browse around.
