Hey there readers, it seems as though the time to get your free upgrade to Microsoft’s Windows 10 and I decided to take advantage of it since I was getting a little bored with my release of Windows 7. I had never gone to Windows 8 or 8.1 on any of my systems and I am using three distinct pieces of gear in case you were wondering.
After requesting the upgrade via the means in your task bar, a few weeks went by until the upgrade rollout date which was beginning on July 29th if memory serves me correctly. I saw the notice the following day and decided to wait for a few days before kicking it into gear. My test example would be my little HP Netbook (remember those? They were pretty much the tablets of the time based on their size and basic functionality). Anyway, it was in my Windows Update screen that you first see the option to begin the upgrade and I apologize for not capturing that image. After about two hours the download and installation completed and brought me to this screen below.
That screen visual was one of their own provisions and I liked how it looked as far as scenic scenes go so I left it for the time being. I kept my logins the same obviously.
After logging in, this was the screen that presented itself and as you can see on the left hand side, all of the applications that were on this device seemed to be fine and dandy. I’m happy to report that they were all good to go.
In the next screen you see some of the tiles that were common in Windows 8 but they are presented differently. You can scroll up and down through the options and some of the options readily available are your calendar, the Microsoft store, Twitter and more. I have not yet configured this to suit my own needs. In time, in time. If you are wondering what one of the benefits of doing this particular upgrade might be, well the main one is that you have the latest OS as opposed to something much older now and it appears that Microsoft will be pushing out the updates you used to be able to select options from on their own without your input.
Fans of Internet Explorer will still have that as a software to browse the web but while you get version “11”, it seems as though Microsoft really wants you to try their new thing so they can discontinue it going forward. When you open IE it suggests that you try out “Microsoft Edge” and at my first couple of glances it seems to operate in the same fashion. Perhaps a little better and more secure. You can do things in Edge that were not possible in IE.
I couldn’t resist opening up this website in the new browser. I’ll give it a chance and see how browsing on my websites and the social networks that I like most function on it. Of course I will not lie and say that IE was my browser of choice because it was not. I have been using Firefox for everything and my secondary was Google Chrome. Perhaps Microsoft is going to be back in the game in this area.
Everything seems to be fine with this upgrade but the real test is going to be on the Desktop since that is my primary system. I’d love to upgrade my laptop but that is using Windows Vista and apparently the free upgrade is not available to those users. Time to figure out a workaround for that little issue.
