Several of the films have not yet had their required Los Angeles and New York qualifying releases. Submitted features must fulfill the theatrical release requirements and comply with all of the category’s other qualifying rules in order to advance in the voting process. This year, for the first time, films that have won a qualifying award at a competitive film festival or have been submitted in the Foreign Language Film category as their country’s official selection, are also eligible in the category. A shortlist of 15 films will be announced on December 17. Films submitted in the Documentary Feature category may also qualify for Academy Awards in other categories, including Best Picture. Nominations for the 91st Academy Awards will be announced on Tuesday, January 22, 2019. The 91st Oscars® will be held on Sunday, February 24, 2019, at the Dolby Theatre® at Hollywood & Highland Center® in Hollywood, and will be televised live on the ABC Television Network. The Oscars also will be televised live in more than 225 countries and territories worldwide.
ABOUT THE ACADEMY: The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is a global community of more than 9,000 of the most accomplished artists, filmmakers and executives working in film. In addition to celebrating and recognizing excellence in filmmaking through the Oscars, the Academy supports a wide range of initiatives to promote the art and science of the movies, including public programming, educational outreach and the upcoming Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, which is under construction in Los Angeles.

Piercing Ken Thoughts: I’m not going to add much more here because I’ve not managed to see any of these “166” documentaries and while I like the occasional historical overview on a hot topic or three, I generally keep to the music side of the fence. If that is the subject matter I am all in or when its stuff related to the comic book and films of those types as well. What about you readers? Are any of those listed docs ones that are high on your list of wanting to see them bring home an Oscar? Chime in down below with your thoughts, or to recommend any of the films that you’ve seen and think that we will enjoy here at the Creative Command HQ. I’d love to hear from you.
