Tribeca Film Festival 2019: Cinema 360 “Her Truth, Her Power”

As previously discussed, “The Chronicles of Piercing Ken” was attending the Tribeca Film Festival and it was actually our very first time at this event and doing so as a member of the press with what was defined as the “Chambers Pass”. For the unschooled in such things, certain badges allow for certain things and others do not. One of the events we were able to participate in was the Cinema 360 series of immersive films. There were four sessions in this series and each consisted of three short films that had a connected narrative theme. During these sessions the audience would sit in a spacious room in an office chair that allowed you to spin if necessary while wearing a set of headphones and goggles. My brief on each of these viewings have been broken up by each theme and I’ve already shared my thoughts on “Go Team!” and “Change Is Gonna Come”. Now let’s continue along with the third theme from the series.

Theme 3: Her Truth, Her Power

Children Do Not Play War: Children Do Not Play War is a cinematic VR tale of the war in Uganda told through the eyes of a young girl.

Piercing Ken Thoughts: This theme was an interesting one and all stories felt like they were through the eyes of some extraordinary young women. Each was from a culture very far removed from my own society and showed us just how hard it is to be a female in a foreign land. I was happy to find the end result of “Her Truth, Her Power” being what it was and was appreciative and inspired by the diligence of India’s Malala who preaches standing up and changing the viewpoint. With “Children Do Not Play Way” I was left feeling sad at the amount of conflict still in our world with so many better things to do with our time. I felt that overall this was a series that made me appreciate the bounties we have at our disposal and how education can help move the world forward in a more positive fashion. The last theme will be discussed in brief in my final narrative. As expected I didn’t reveal too much since I hope that all of you can see these films at some point.
