Fooding With Finns @ Hill Country BBQ Market NYC

If you’ve been reading my PiercingMetal Facebook at all from the last few weeks, you’ve probably seen me mention that we were wandering around with the keyboardist/founder of the Finnish Band “Amberian Dawn” and a couple of his friends. During these adventures we hit some of the local favorite pubs like our much loved Duke’s and even McSorley’s but now the time had some to sit down for a proper dinner at a place called HILL COUNTRY BBQ MARKET. Since I had never been there before, I decided to take some photos and add them to the food focused posts on The Chronicles. When you sit down, the server gives you one of these little guides/tickets. It’s very important to keep this ticket. The server made sure to mention this.

Initially I wasn’t planning on documenting this visit, but since I had snapped several photos with my mobile said it was a good idea. Here are some additional looks at this little guide card.

So since I was with visiting Finnish, a clear objective of the supper soiree was to enjoy some cold beers. Fortunately the place had these buckets of Lone Star beer at the ready. This was the first of about six or eight buckets of beers. There were about “8” people involved in this gathering so it made sense.

I didn’t take a whole of photos of the food displays or the way that it was served up but what you did need to do was take that little card up to one of the many counters to get what you wanted. At the meat counter I opted for a smoked sausage and some slices of beef brisket. It was very, very tasty.

Macaroni and Cheese was one of my selected sides because I wanted to try how they made it.

This next side is sweet potato bourbon mash. It sounded so good when I read it that I just had to try it. It was indeed very nice to the palate.

A close up shot of our beer selection of the evening. I’ve had this brew before but not since I was in Downtown Dallas, TX for a work meeting during a tenure so very long ago. This was a Texas styled place so why not stick to the fare of the region even in drink.

When you are done, you bring the card up to the cashier and they tally it up. It’s a tad pricey but that is to be expected with this type of place and the eats that you are getting. If you need cheap, then just find any number of the pubs in the city that serve food. That will not set you back as much as this place did me. I think when it came down to it I spent about $40 and I didn’t eat all that much food. This was on top of the beer chipping in which is handled by the server as a separate transaction. I’d like to come back here again sometime but not with a big group like this. Perhaps I can convince Skeleton Pete to join me or take a date is she is a fan of the type of fare that one gets here. This is not a place you take someone who is watching their red meat intake or a vegan that’s for sure. If you’ve been here at all before, please feel free to chime in your thoughts on the place down in our comments section below. Thanks for reading.
