Exploring Toy Fair 2016: Crayola

Logo - Toy Fair - 2016

It’s clear that Crayola is one of the most iconic brands in the history of creative play from their being the creator of the famous wax crayons that I am pretty sure every single one of us owned as a child. I have fond memories of the original small box of “9” and if you were a lucky duck you might have gotten that big “64” box with colors you could only imagine existing. Do you remember that it even had a sharpener on the box? I do. During Toy Fair, Skeleton Pete and I explored the offerings that were happening in the Crayola pavilion and I am presenting them to you below.

As with many of the Toy Fair attending vendors, the press outlets must set up an appointment to explore the offerings so one of their team can provide insight on the product line and field any questions that you might have about what you were seeing. As we entered we were treated to this delicious cupcake and a cookie. Yes I ate them both because wandering the Javits Center in this fashion is draining and exhausting.

These two products are aimed at the younger set and the one on the left hand side is a “Sand Scribbler” while the other is a stamping tool.  Very interesting for sure.

The sand scribbler safely lets your child doodle in the sand without any spilling on the carpet or in the car.  You maneuver the rounded piece across the screen to make your designs.  Very simple, and of course for the youngest in your world.  Maybe even something to ease that tension in the office from time to time.

This is called the “Mess Free Light Up Stamper” and as I type this I can hear so many of the mothers that I know saying “Did Ken just say “MESS FREE” – tell me more!!!” LOL.

Of all the products that we would see today at Crayola, I think this one is my second favorite of the bunch. This is the “Crayon Factory” and it solves the issues found with those little nub crayons that have been used almost to the point of nothing. The factory lets you safely melt the crayon bits into a mold and give you a character like the one seen below or even a new usable crayon. Wonderful.
