Digging Some Dynasty Electric (12/16/2013)

After attending a Holiday Mixer over at the Marlin Room at Webster Hall, I decided to do a little exploring to see what was happening down at The Studio (which is a space that many Metal fans know about since we’ve all been there for shows). Having done numerous reports about these events at the space, I was intrigued by the sounds that were happening there this evening but it was not really up my normal reporting alley which led me to scribbling some thoughts here on the PiercingKen site. One of the exciting acts that was doing their thing was called Dynasty Electric.

The group is a two-piece act consisting of Jenny Electrik who does vocals, theremin, synth and
Seth Misterka who’s on guitar, sax, synth and production. It was wildly interesting and to say that Jenny was a great front woman would be an understatement. She was a flurry of motion and musical activity while Seth played either the guitar or picked up the sax or did some programming. Jenny would periodically use the theremin and I will kid you not that this instrument fascinates me. To develop skill on that looks easy but its really not since you are manipulating the space around you and for this kind of material I had to say it was really working out.

I will not pretend that I knew any of their songs nor was able to snag a set list to examine at a later date but I was having a great time with my good friend Skeleton Pete. What I did do was get my Panasonic Lumix rocking and another beer for good measure and figured I would keep this a primarily photo expose. There are a lot of photos to enjoy and I tried to capture the fun of this bands set.

After the band broke down the DJ was spinning some tunes so I had the chance to get a little impromptu Karaoke performance of “S.O.S.” by Abba as sung to my Panasonic Lumix by Miss Electrik herself. How cool is that?

Enjoy and remember that it never hurts to keep your ears open when on any adventure. You never know what you will chance upon. I know I will def check them out again in the future if my schedule permits. I recommend this for fans of bands like Ozric Tentacles in some sense.
