Robinsons, Iron Maiden & Help For Heroes Join Forces To Launch Light Brigade In The U.K.

Fans of the Iron Maiden group of beers might be interested in this new flavor and collaboration. I’ve placed the press release here since The Chronicles Lifestyle Blog has been upping our Food and Drink content to keep your hungers and thirsts sated. Check it out.

The Press Release:
British rock legends IRON MAIDEN and independent family brewers ROBINSONS announce the creation of LIGHT BRIGADE, a unique golden English ale with a 4.1% ABV. Available in the U.K., LIGHT BRIGADE has been developed in support of HELP FOR HEROES, the British charity that provides recovery and support for the Armed Forces community whose lives are affected by their service. 6p of each pint and 5p of each bottle sold will be donated to help the thousands of Servicemen and women who live with complex wounds and injuries – both physical and mental – and are looking to regain their purpose in life.

HELP FOR HEROES met with ROBINSONS in the summer of 2017 to explore the possibility of launching a beer. ROBINSONS and IRON MAIDEN, who jointly launched TROOPER Beer almost five years ago and which has now sold over 20 million pints worldwide, were immediately enthusiastic about the idea. Indeed, the origin of TROOPER’s name, which comes from the classic IRON MAIDEN song, ‘The Trooper’, based on the Battle of Balaclava of 1854 in the Crimean War, reflects the band’s well-known interest in history.

As ever with the TROOPER range of beers, ROBINSONS’ Head Brewer, MARTYN WEEKS, and IRON MAIDEN lead vocalist and ale aficionado, BRUCE DICKINSON, teamed up to create the new and original beer, with the final tasting and approval taking place at HELP FOR HEROES’ Tedworth House Recovery Centre in Wiltshire, last Autumn.

BRUCE DICKINSON said: “We are very proud to have been asked to get involved. I have been an instructor on several of British Airways’ flight simulator ‘Flying Heroes’ days for HELP FOR HEROES Veterans, so I know the charity and the work that they do well. LIGHT BRIGADE is our interpretation of a golden ale that maintains the elements of strength and character that are the essence of TROOPER but at a more sessionable level. In fact, the two beers complement each other very well.”

Starting The Day With Burger King’s “Ultimate Breakfast Platter”

Every couple of weeks I grab some coffee with a neighbor of mine to catch up on our mutual worlds and we either hit the local Dunkin Donuts, McDonalds or Burger King since each of them offers up a tasty breakfast menu. I’m a big fan of the Sausage and Egg Burrito or the McMuffin (but I don’t indulge in them as much anymore since they don’t work off of me as fast as they used to). Yesterday my friend had coupons for Burger King and they had a brand-new breakfast platter. The price was fantastic from the coupon so why not give it a try. My photo is of the exact item but you cannot really see the cup of coffee that was also a part of the deal.

As you can see, the Burger King “Ultimate Breakfast Platter” has all of this stuff on the plate. There are scrambled eggs, Hash Browns, sausage, a warm baked croissant and three fluffy pancakes drizzled which you can add butter and syrup to. If you think that this sounds like a lot of food well it is. Technically speaking you can assemble the eggs and sausage onto the croissant for ease of eating it all but I didn’t do that with this go round. I do love the hash browns that BK serves up since they remind me of tater tots and are easily dipped into the little ketchup cups. I should point out that there were a few more of them than you see in the photo but I was rather hungry that morning and ate a bunch before I realized that I should snap a photo to use in this foodie blog post. With this order would also be my very first time trying their pancakes and they were very tasty as well.

This can be compared to the McDonald’s “Big Breakfast” but it does seem to give you more for the money. Never a bad thing. From the look of the morning menu, it appears that BK is adventuring into breakfast a little more and offering up some interesting items. There is a giant burrito of some kind but it was not what I had a coupon for and it was pricey without one. This was a proper choice but will leave you full so a little extra walking is encouraged afterward.

Death Wish Coffee @ NY Empire State Tattoo Expo 2017

death wish coffee logo

Since I was wandering the aisles and seeing what was going at the annual NY Empire State Tattoo Expo, I was happy to find the folks from Death Wish Coffee onsite with a table of their own.  Let’s see that they have for the attendees this weekend. Have you heard of this company yet? They make a really strong coffee. REALLY STRONG. Trust me on this as I’ve had it a few times.

In addition to some free samples of their “World’s Strongest Coffee”, they had a lot of items for purchase such as mugs for the hot coffee and thermos style cups for traveling with any variation of it.

Checking Out The Burger King “Classic Grilled Dogs”

Yesterday was the Fourth of July and oddly enough I had not known of a single BBQ being held by any of my friends that didn’t require some lengthy traveling to participate in. I’ll admit that it didn’t bother me all too much but the pang in my inner core was craving a good old hot dog since its one of the days main dining fare’s after all so now what to do. I decided to do a quick walk of my area and as I passed the nearby Burger King franchise I noticed a sign for their grilled dogs and that for a limited time they were only $.79 – Since I had wanted to try these for Foodspotting purposes, it worked out perfectly. Below are the two dogs that I snagged.

Of the two variations that they sell here, “The Classic Grilled Dog” was the one on sale and this consists of a grilled beef hot dog in a bun topped with ketchup, mustard, relish, and chopped onions. Onions that are raw and chopped really get to my stomach these days so I avoid them at all costs which left me only with the relish. I don’t normally like ketchup on my hot dogs but for this “taste test” I left it alone to get as close to the full experience that I could. By the way this offering is normally priced at $1.99 each. So how are they? Well, to be honest they are just okay at best but they did serve the quick hunger pang and need for a hot dog type dish for the day. They reminded me of the Ballpark franks more than an Oscar Meyer brand or a Sabrett hot dog when it came down to it and the amount of relish and other condiments was not overpowering. As a quick nosh I give this an a-okay but would surely prefer a Nathans Famous hot dog to this one if I had the choice. I’m not sure I would pay $2 for a single one and hope that BK decides to keep this sort of pricing going forward to keep moving product. Since this is a burger joint, there are NOT a lot of people coming in looking for hot dogs.

It’s fun to share stuff like this with you on occasion and I’ll try to get similar stuff online to make our Food and Drink area a lot more populated. Sadly, I missed out on the “Whopperito” but the idea of a Whopper sandwich being served up as a burrito didn’t seem too appetizing to me. Closing up remember to do some exercise after offerings like this since they can tack on the pounds if you are not careful. Until next time.

Friday Night’s Good For Pizza @ Casa KP

I know what you are thinking… You’re saying, “Wow, what a Rockstar night you’re have had last night” since I’m scribbling blogs for not only The Chronicles but for the PiercingMetal.com site and talking about the pizza that I tossed together at supper time. I’ve made these sort of tasty treats in the past and have shared them with you on this blog but this one had a little bit of an interesting process to it. I’ll explain that after the photo of the finished yummy. Looks nice don’t you think?

So as I mentioned I was doing blogs for both of the websites and didn’t mind the evening home since I had a few events early in the week and a proposed busy schedule over the weekend with a pitched for convention dealing with food on Sunday along with a show. Chilling on the couch with the DVR playing through the recordings and cat company was a fine thing indeed but what to eat I found myself saying. Instead of ordering out, I decided to see what I had in both the fridge and the freezer. I’ve been on a bit of a non-meat kick and was trying to abstain from the protein for at least two weeks so staying in meant that was easier to do as well. I found some frozen pita bread from a Middle Eastern dish that I had some weeks ago and a good amount of veggies in the fridge like peppers, Jalapenos and mushrooms. I also used some of the leftover marinara that came with an order of garlic knots from my local pizzeria and a nicely spiced garlic clove slice from these amazing spiced pickles that I had on hand.

The idea was to use what I had and not go get anything else outside and this worked out well. Five minutes to prepare and about six to cook and get nice and crispy the way I like it. The pita bread from the restaurant dish was thinner than the type I usually get from the bakery so would be lighter than my other go rounds at the dish. Now it was back to blogging and preparing for the upcoming events. Until next time.
