“Playcrafting founded Play NYC in 2017 to give New York a game convention of its own,” said Dan Butchko, founder and CEO of Playcrafting and the convention organizer. “Each year, we welcome over 5,000 people and 150 games for two days, unlike any other. Last fall, we announced the 4th Play NYC. A lot of games were already confirmed for the show. It was shaping up to be our biggest yet. Then COVID-19 changed life as we know it.

the events in the same host cities as previously announced. Mischief looks forward to celebrating together with all of our attendees and guests in a safe and exciting way in 2021.

The 2020 Architectural Digest Design Show Is Cancelled Amid Coronavirus Concerns

STATEMENT FROM THE ARCHITECTURAL DIGEST DESIGN SHOW REGARDING 2020 SHOW:
After careful consideration, we have decided to cancel the Architectural Digest Design Show 2020. The Show Management and Condé Nast feel this is the most prudent course of action as we all learn how to best navigate the coming months in the safest manner possible. Our top priority is the health of our exhibitors, attendees, and staff, as well as to provide the most beneficial show possible for all.

Piercing Ken Thoughts: Though the Coronavirus Pandemic is not as bad as it was some weeks ago, I am not surprised to find this event cancelled since its massive and brings in thousands and thousands of attendees. At this point its still better to be safe than sorry and while I was really looking forward to attending, the circumstances have found it to be impossible. There is a part of me that feels no large-scale event will be happening this year and that is going to suck but its better than getting a deadly virus. Stay healthy out there my readers, I will keep doing these posts to keep you engaged and entertained in a very precarious time. See you again soon.

Geeks OUT Announces Flame Con 2020 Postponement Due To Coronavirus

The Press Release:
While this likely does not come as a surprise, it is with great sadness that we must announce the postponement of Flame Con 2020, due to concerns around COVID-19. Though Flame Con will not be held this year, we look forward to coming back, bigger and better, at the Times Square Sheraton on August 21-22, 2021!

Geeks OUT’s mission is to support out queer geek community near and far. While we were hopeful that the global situation would have begun to improve by the late spring, it would have been irresponsible to risk anyone’s well-being by hosting an event of Flame Con’s size in NY this August.

Our organization would not be what it is without all the hard work, time, and passion you all have given. That we have grown to this size is a testament to the fact that hope and creativity can bring a community to life. The Geeks OUT board & Flame Con Steering Committee are eternally grateful for you.

And, of course, all is not a wash! We are looking into ways we can continue to bring our community together this summer. Details on remote events, presented by Geeks OUT, shortly.

Best wishes for a healthy and happy summer!

The Flame Con Steering Committee: Maya Bishop, Chair, Jayson Bennett, Gabe Berlin, Steve Gianaca, Kevin Gilligan, Nic Gitau, Bethany Gonzalez, Rachel Greeman, John Jennison, Niki Johnson, Sa’Mada Lawler, Michelle Rose Micor

Piercing Ken Thoughts: The cancellation of any special event really gets to me and having been a media attendee to three Flame Cons already, I am saddened by this latest postponement news. As you diehard readers know, I cover a LOT of conventions and trade shows for both “The Chronicles” and for PiercingMetal and based on this terrible viral pandemic have not been anywhere since the first week of March. I feel bad for this still growing in prominence convention because they do such good for the geeks in the LGBTQ Community and I’ve been happy to use my own media voice to help broadcast the talented people that I meet at this convention. My hope is for a better, more exciting and most of all HEALTHY 2021. I cannot wait for things to get as close to normal as they possibly can. Stay healthy my friends, wear a mask if you go outside and practice social distancing and make sure you are in accordance with your own regions guidelines before doing anything. See you next time.

Specialty Food Association’s 2020 “Summer Fancy Food Show” Cancelled Amid Coronavirus Pandemic

Considering the world we are now living in, I guess it was pretty much just a matter of time before we learned that this years Specialty Food Association “Summer Fancy Food Show” was going to be cancelled. Since the event center has been transformed into a makeshift hospital to help with Covid-19 cases, its not really the best scenario for a food based event. Below you can find their official statement.

The Press Release:
The Specialty Food Association’s (SFA) 66th annual Summer Fancy Food Show scheduled for June 28-30 at the Jacob Javits Center in New York will not take place as planned due to events outside SFA’s control – notably the national and global response to the COVID-19 pandemic, including travel restrictions, and the Javits Center’s critical service in fighting the pandemic that impacts the facility’s availability.

“As the leader in the future of food movement, our responsibility is to serve our members through good times and bad,” said SFA President Phil Kafarakis. “Our legacy is one of connecting the global specialty food industry – makers, buyers and distributors – and we’re assessing ways to create an engaging environment for that, outside of the Fancy Food Show.”
