I'm a Freelance Music Photojournalist from NYC and Founder of the Heavy Metal website PiercingMetal.com; I created this blog site to showcase the other things in life that keep my interest or catch my attention. Believe me that is a lot of stuff to talk about when it comes down to it. I hope you enjoy what we are delivering because there is so much to share as a resident of this bustling metropolis.

The PiercingKen Blog Is Officially Six Years Old!

Hello there my readers, I just wanted to take a moment out of your day to let you know that today is the sixth anniversary of this PiercingKen.com Blog and what a fun six years it’s been so far. Those folks who’ve been with me since the beginning know that it was launched as a space where all of the other photography, musical forays and city observations could be presented and serve as a home away from my Metal home over at PiercingMetal.com – Now you newbies to the domain know as well. Thank you for taking the time to visit us from time to time when there is something that I would like to say.

The past year of creative offerings have spanned my museum and convention visits and some tourism from both NYC and from Down South where I visit family. I hope to do more of that stuff as I begin the path to the seventh year. I didn’t get as much music discussed on the site as I would have liked but some of the items on the agenda were held back by the increased productivity of the PiercingMetal.com site. With that site completely in WordPress at this point, the to do list gets bigger and bigger but that is fine by me. I’ve remained very active on this sites social networks so I hope you are following the Official Facebook, Twitter and Instagram because when I am out in our great metropolis I’m sending information to all of them. My plans for the new creative year are more music, more museum stuff and perhaps even other conventions that some might find interesting – oh yeah and more food stuff since I have connected this site its socials to both my Foodspotting and Yelp accounts (all items are linked down below for ease of your support). I’m also planning a lot more silly stuff from the personal archives that I hope will amuse you and get you thinking a little bit also if you should have similar things.

Thanks for the time you choose to spend here. I can say that traffic continues to climb as more and more posts get placed in this Lifestyle Archive and that’s a very good thing. There are about 375 posts to this site as I write this. Your interest in these musings about life humbles me.

Remembering “Star Wars: The Magic Of Myth” Exhibit @ Brooklyn Museum (Part 2)

Hello again my friends and welcome back to my presentation for “Star Wars Day”. As I mentioned in CHAPTER ONE; I’m showcasing photos that were captured on devices of the time at the 2002 exhibit “Star Wars: The Magic Of Myth” which was being held at the Brooklyn Museum. Let’s continue along with this adventure from a “long time ago” LOL.

Remembering “Star Wars: The Magic Of Myth” Exhibit @ Brooklyn Museum (Part 1)

Today is “Star Wars Day” so “May The Fourth Be With You” LOL. I realize that its a corny statement but hey, the world of geek rallies behind it and so do I. In honor of this special day for one of my very favorite films, I dug up some old photos from the 2002 exhibit “Star Wars: The Magic Of Myth” that I attended with friends at the Brooklyn Museum. The exhibit was fantastic and showcased costumes, models and puppets from all of the “Star Wars” films up until that time which would have been “Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace” as the latest since “Star Wars: Episode II: Attack Of The Clones” had only just opened a couple of weeks before we attended this exhibit. Armed with the photographic technology of the time my friend James and I wandered and snapped a lot of photos which you can see below. The order is not as uniform as I would do nowadays but remember this was from a time before I did the photo journalist stuff. Hope you enjoy the presentation.

“Khristos voskres! Voistinu voskres! On This Orthodox Easter 2016

Today is the Orthodox Easter Celebration if you are Russian Orthodox, Greek Orthodox and so forth. Historically speaking this was my Grandmother’s biggest of the religious celebrations and part of the service was the proclamation of “”Khristos voskres! Voistinu voskres” which is translated to “Christ is Risen, Indeed He is Risen” (I am ancestrally part Russian but speak barely a sentence being a third generation piece of the familial puzzle). Nan used to attend services at a beautiful cathedral in Greenpoint/Williamsburg Brooklyn where she lived all of her life and it was called the Russian Orthodox Cathedral of the Transfiguration of Our Lord. It’s quite a bit to say but based on its wonderful structure and interior it works. Though I am not trying to be overly religious in this post, I wanted to use it to remember Nan on her holiday and to share images that I discovered were taken back in 2012 when I was last inside the place. I used a very small (but handy) Sony Cybershot and I didn’t have a lot of light to work with or time but I snapped away and intended to use the images much sooner than I did.
