Welcome Winter Storm Jonas :)

Winter Storm Jonas had started laying down what it was bringing late on Friday evening and that meant that a lot of cancellations and rescheduling of things to do was going to happen as our city officials began to close things down or limit service for the safety of our area residents. For me this meant the moving of the Lamb Of God concert (which will be featured on PiercingMetal.com once its attended) and the partial cancellation of the Heroes and Villains Fan Fest convention that I was heading to on Saturday but despite these changes I knew that getting some images for our readers in the warmer climates where such a phenomenon does not happen at all. The photo below was taken at around 1:30am from the apartment, it was already some serious downfall and seemed steady.

After the necessary sleep, I shot another image at around 8:30am and felt that some wandering for the purposes of this piece would be better to do soon and before it got too difficult to walk around out there. This was going to take some coffee.

What do you think of the modern art kitchen window? Its a fleeting piece that could only be enjoyed today. Reservations were gone so you all must enjoy it like this I am afraid.

So out I went decked out in the long johns and sweat pants and the big winter coat, hat and scarf. Sadly, I brought the wrong gloves since I needed the ones that let me use the mobile device while I wandered. They are not at all warm. I’d bring along my Samsung point and shoot as well but as the short wander got underway it would remain in my pocket and that means all of these images are from the phone. It worked.

Glad to see that nothing can stop the New York Fire Department. I waved when they passed me and they honked. I felt like a little kid again. Remember waiving at the firetrucks when you were little? I know you do.

Had only shot this one since it was almost Christmas tree looking so seeing it covered in snow made me feel less cheated that none of this came to us around that holiday. We had some warm weather last month for sure.

I had made it down to Shore Road and 92nd Street. It was the “easiest” path to take, and my goal was one of the usual spots that I like to go in the neighborhood so some of you more tenured readers might recognize some of the visuals.

The overpass was loaded with snow but there were many footprints so others had braved similar adventure so I was able to get through by stepping into other peoples footprints. Still was pretty deep. It was around 1:45pm and yes it was still snowing.

Hmmm. The path down was going to be a little trickier going up but I cannot worry about that now since I needed to be on the other side of the overpass to see the beautiful bridge and NYC from that vantage point. I’m being ridiculous of course because you could not see either of these things in the storm. Take a look below if you don’t believe me.

The Belt Parkway was not too trafficked either. It would not be long after this that the Mayor would issue a travel ban and ask that everyone get off the road.

As I headed back I saw two snow plows and sanding trucks passing me by. New York’s Strongest were on point for awhile during this storm and with that being the case I didn’t wave to them and instead gave two thumbs up as they passed. I couldn’t tell if they saw me doing that or not but I like to think that they did.

Closing up I hope you all had a safe and good day. Hopefully you didn’t need to get milk, bread or eggs the night before and deal with a NY Comic Con like scenario at the local markets. As I said earlier, all of my plans for the day and night were cancelled but thankfully there is a lot to read here in the creative command HQ and plenty to watch thanks to a healthy video library and all the streaming options. Take care now and oh by the way…..it’s still snowing 🙂
