I’m going to admit that I have never before watched an episode of the NBC talent competition “The Voice”. Over the years I have supported the audition shows for both “American Idol” and “So You Think You Can Dance” because so many of the people I encounter on a daily basis as a music journalist for my Metal site do that kind of thing, but “The Voice” always managed to elude me – until now. Let me explain why.




I’m a semi-regular customer at Duke’s Bar which is located down on 19th Street off Park Avenue South based on its being the official launch point for the Metal and Rock shows that are happening at either Irving Plaza or The Gramercy Theatre. Technically speaking I have made this the case along with a handful of other Metal madmen thanks to the likes of inviting people to things via Facebook and letting them know about your movements on Twitter. Now, with our being based in New York City, you are bound to meet any number of talented and interesting people during the course of your adventuring and one such instance happened when I met a charming young lady whose name is Adriana. She is one of the many servers at Duke’s Bar and over time we learned that she was an aspiring singer but not the type that I would normally see on my own adventures. That was fine of course as while I am true blood Metal man, I do enjoy seeing anyone who is talented do their thing. You’re all just looking at Adriana anyway but I don’t mind that. She looks much better than me.



On one visit, Miss Figueroa informed me that she was to be involved in something kind of big but she could not yet disclose the details at this time. I understood this completely being a representative of the press and hoped to learn what the big secret was eventually. As it turned out, the lovely Miss Adriana was a contestant on “The Voice” which I believe you already know to be a music competition. Unlike “American Idol”, you get selected for this in a different fashion and then work with a celebrity coach as a member of their team. This season we find Adam Levine, Christina Aquilera, Cee Lo Green and Blake Shelton as the judges and you can enjoy Adriana’s “blind audition” via the embedded clip below.




I have to say that I really enjoyed Adriana’s audition and was blown away by the fact that all four judges turned around to pitch for her. She has a great voice and a great look and seems loaded with positive energy which is something that works well with being an artist that you want the music purchasing community to get behind sometime in the future. Honestly, I am not really sure how the overall show works going forward but I will be watching and should she win the prize at the end I will do my best to be one of the photographers in the photo pit at her next big gig.
